Apple and the Indian market have had a rather tricky relationship. The Cupertino-company is finding it quite hard to gain any significant foothold in India, mostly because of the lack of carrier subsidies and general low average income.

Still, they somehow got it in their head that even though the average Indian user can't afford the latest iPhone, he/she will be more than happy with the second best thing. Or third. If offered at a decent price that is.

As a consequence, Apple will be re-releasing the 8GB iPhone 4 in India, in order to boost sales and keep up with cheaper rivals running Android and Windows Phone 8.

Since the iPhone 4 has been discontinued last year after the launch of the iPhone 5s and the 5c, it will be interesting to see where Apple will get enough units from. Restarting the production doesn't seem feasible, and collecting all unsold iPhone 4 inventories doesn't sound easy.

Regardless, our source tells us that the 8GB iPhone 4 will be priced at around INR 15,000 ($244) and is expected to go on sale as early as next week.
