Just as we expected, Huawei unveiled its two major flagship smartphones during its press conference at CES. Sadly, the company is yet to release some decent up-close pictures, but we'll get back to you with those.

First, let's take a look at the Ascend Mate. This monster phone uses a 6.1-inch 720p display, which works with gloves and has Gorilla Glass protection on top. This is the biggest phablet on the market, and is also said to have the slimmest bezel, its screen covering 73% of its front panel.

Other features include a quad-core 1.5GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, an 8MP rear camera with 1080p video recording and a 1.3MP front-facing snapper. You won't find LTE on the Ascend Mate, but there is a microSD card slot for expanding the storage room, as well as a huge battery of 4050 mAh.

The Ascend Mate runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with Huawei's Emotion UI, which offers pop-up apps for improved multi-tasking, as well as a one-hand UI, which is meant to improve the handling of the dialer or keyboard when your hands are literally tied up.

You can expect the Ascend Mate to reach availability in February, China being the first market to receive it. The price is rumored to be about $480.

Moving on to the Ascend D2, we have a smartphone that packs a 5-inch 1080p display (that's 443ppi) with very thin bezel, which is also water and dust resistance. This handset is powered by a quad-core 1.5GHz processor with yet unknown GPU and comes up with 2GB of RAM.

On the back you'll find a 13MP camera that is capable of 1080p video recording, while on the front there's a 1.3MP snapper. All-round connectivity except LTE, 32GB internal storage, and a 3000 mAh battery complete the specs sheet. No microSD card slot for this one.

The Ascend D2 also runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, customized by Huawei. China will receive it this month, for a price tag which is yet to be confirmed, with other markets set to follow.
