MWC: Quad-core ZTE Era with Android 4.0 and ZTE Orbit with WP Tango, go official

It's an interesting battle between the two Chinese manufacturers, ZTE and Huawei, and as of today, ZTE brought to more smatphones to the battlefield. The first and most interesting one is the ZTE Era, packed with a quad-core engine and running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Running on Microsoft's upcoming Windows Phone Tango, we meet the ZTE Orbit which is the company's latest low-end offering.

The ZTE Era represents somewhat a pioneer handset, since it comes packing Nvidia's quad-core Tegra 3 processor, while being the first smartphone to also sport Nvidia's latest Icera 450 HSPA+ modem, signifying Nvidia's transformation into a mobile SoC - System-on-a-Chip maker. As of now, the company can stop relying in third-party baseband (modem) chips and can begin selling an integrated CPU+GPU+modem solution.

But what exactly does the Era smartphone has to offer? Well, we don't much info but here it goes - 4.3-inch qHD (540×960) touchscreen, 8 GB of built-in storage space (which can be expanded with a microSD card), HD voice and Dolby sound. The handset will hit the market in the second half of the year, measuring in at 7.8mm thin and running the latest Android OS. The shipping estimation is sadly a long time from now, so it's really no use talking about price tags yet.

Moving on to the ZTE Orbit, this handset should be at the opposite price end, compared to the Era. It will clearly be a cheap smartphone, perhaps even cheaper than the ZTE Tania, which already has a low price tag.

The specs sheet attached to the device says that the ZTE Orbit has 512MB of RAM, but according the Windows Phone's reporting on a demo unit fro ZTE's booth, the device only has 256 MB of RAM. This could really hurt prospective WP consumers, since certain apps for Tango might not work on this device. Other than the fact that it packs a 5MP camera and 4G of internal memory, not much else is known for sure about this handset, but we'll be back with more info as they roll in.
