Nokia officially turns its back on Symbian and MeeGo

The announcement came back in October and confirmed that Nokia will be ending all developer support for MeeGo and Symbian as of January 1, 2014.

Well, it's been two days since the deadline and indeed the Ovi Store doesn't accept any more apps. Nokia made a short, emotionless announcement via its official Symbian Team account on Twitter.

Basically, this means that developers are no longer able to push new apps or updates in the Ovi Store. This does not affect the current revenue which they're receiving from their existing apps, and you still have the option of downloading the currently available apps in the Store.

However, despite all the nostalgia you might experience, it might be time to jump ship towards a new platform which isn't, you know, dead.
