Nokia will no longer support MeeGo and Symbian as of January 1

This isn't a surprising move at all, but the announcement still makes some of us pretty sad. Nokia officially confirmed that it will be dropping support for the Symbian and MeeGo OS, as of the first day of 2014.

Basically, all current apps will still be available for downloads, and developers will continue to get revenues for the said apps, but nobody will be able to publish or update apps on the Ovi Store after the January 1 deadline.

The pending Microsoft acquisition of Nokia surely had an important role in speeding things up, and we expect other similar announcements from the Finnish company, in the following weeks.
