Symbian is officially dead - Belle update arrives in February

Tags: Nokia, Symbian

As of today, the Symbian name is history. The nostalgic ones will surely remember all the good and bad times that they've shared back in the days, when Nokia's OS was named Symbian. Well, not anymore. Nokia decided to look into the future, gave up on the Symbian name and is now calling the OS "Nokia Belle". It seems like a normal step, considering that they've recently handed development on Symbian to Accenture and to be honest, it's no huge loss. On the contrary, it might do them good to distance them from the name that caused them so many negative comments and reviews.

Symbian is officially dead - Belle update arrives in February

As the Romans would say: the OS is dead, long live the OS. The Finnish company offered an official schedule for the Belle update, with a clear roll out date starting in February 2012. Who among you own a Nokia N8, E7, X7, E6, C6-01, C7 and Oro, can consider yourselves lucky, as you shall receive this update in February of next year. Furthermore, the N8, C7 and C6-01 will start heading towards shops with Nokia Belle pre-installed.

At first, they'll be made available in China, with several other markets set to follow. As far as other enhancements are concerned, don't hold your breath; the latest OS is all that you get.
