Telephony and Messaging

It doesn't matter at what end of the market, you can always count on Nokia not to skimp on proper telephony. The Nokia C2-01 turned out to be very good at holding onto signal, not that we'd expect any less. In-call sound is crystal clear and doesn't get too loud even at a higher setting. A few features such as smart dialing and voice calling are completely absent as well as the Voice Clarity feature which many other S40 phones have incorporated. Our traditional loudspeaker test proved that the C2-01 is a solid performer to say the least, meaning that you shouldn't encounter trouble hearing even if the phone is well hidden deep inside your pocket or purse.

Also, when it comes to messaging, you won't find any problems although it's as basic as the phone's design. Surely, we can't blame it for not being an E72 and since it supports formats like SMS, MMS, flash and audio messages as well as email, we have to consider ourselves satisfied. You get reasonable typing speed thanks to the keyboard of the C2-01 and it's a pretty good package in terms of software support, even having Conversations enabled. It has a very simple and easy to use message editor, which is another good aspect. When you finish writing a message, it's easy to just pick a contact or choose from the recently used numbers, the call log or contact groups. You also have the option of a single favorite contact, so choose carefully. Setting up the email client is a walk in the park, the only requirement being an email address as well as entering the password and then let the phone do the rest of the work.
