It's official, the Samsung S5230 Star has a successor. The Samsung S5260 Star II, as it's called, assumed some of the original features and came up with some great upgrades. As a consequence, a capacitive display took over the old resistive one, there's a new Wi-Fi b/g/n connectivity as well as a standard microUSB port. On the downside, the screen is the same 3'' WQVGA (240x400) and there's still no 3G connectivity.
Although the Star II is no smartphone, the TouchWiz UI has been bumped to v3.0, a major update from the software point of view.
As far as the social networking skills are concerned, the Samsung S5260 Star II will more than happily take care of all your needs. You will benefit from a phonebook featuring SNS integration as well as preinstalled apps like Twitter and Facebook. Also, music fans will love the 3.5mm audio jack, DNSe support and a microSD card Slot for cards up to 16GB.
The phone is available in black and white and it's set to be released this Februrary, in European countries, India, South America and the Middle East a while later. With over 30 million sales, the original Samsung S5230 Star was a roaring succes, the only question remaining is wheter the Star II will prove to be a worthy proponent.
